Halloween 2014

Wow this year's fall weather took us from carving pumpkins in shorts to wearing snowsuits at the Halloween parade!!  The Onkens joined us again this year to carve pumpkins.  Bill did an excellent job thinning out the inside of the pumpkins for an easy carve, but the warm weather accelerated the wilting of our pumpkins.  Needless to say, we did not win the subdivision carving contest this year, but several trick-or-treaters commended us on our house decorations.  Carter sawed on the top of one pumpkin for about 20 minutes and then decided he would rather play with his tractors and Emmett.  Nolan was back and forth between carving pumpkins and playing with Carter and Emmett.  Blake hung out and took everything in.

Bill carved a haunted house for Nolan and a ghost for Carter.  I carved a witch's hat and broomstick for Blake.  The jack-o-lanterns turned out great!

On Thursday, October 30th, Nolan's school held a Halloween Party.  I was super excited to be able to attend.  I always loved when my parents came to my school parties.  I was happy to see the excitement on Nolan's face when I walked into his classroom.  The kiddos had yummy snacks and completed some crafts.  A Halloween parade took place earlier in the day and Nolan wore his Emmet costume, but decided to take most of the costume off by the time the Halloween Party started.

Nolan dressed as Emmet, Carter dressed as a shark, and Blake dressed as a skeleton.  Bill took Nolan and Carter trick-or-treating, while I held down the fort with Blake to pass out candy to the other trick-or-treaters.  Bill, Nolan, and Carter only made it to five houses when the boys said they were scared and wanted to go home.  Bill said there were some pretty scary masks which made the boys scared.

After several trick-or-treaters came to our door, Carter decided he wanted to make another go at trick-or-treating.  Bill and Carter headed out again, but this time Nolan stayed back to help me hand out the candy.  Bill said Carter would walk down the sidewalk in between houses saying, "trick-or-treat thank you", but as soon as Carter arrived at the door to a house he would clam up and not say anything!!

On Halloween night Bill and Nolan walked in the parade for Nolan's school.  Papa, Nana, Aunt KK, and James took Carter to watch the parade.  I stayed at home with Blake.  It was so cold!!!!  Carter was bundled up in his snowsuit and snow boots.  Nolan had on so many layers his costume vest barely closed.  Bill said Nolan had fun, but mostly stared at everyone in the crowd.  Papa and Nana said Carter was quiet and enjoyed all of the floats too!  After the parade was over, everyone came back to the house for a nice hot bowl of chili and grilled cheese sandwich.
