Nolan Needs Glasses

On Friday March 11th, Nolan had his kindergarten eye exam.  I did NOT expect to hear Nolan needed glasses.  Nolan has been reading since he was four, never squints, or complains of headaches.  And neither Bill or I wear corrective lenses.  None of this mattered however, because on Friday Dr. Jones diagnosed Nolan with hyperopia, astigmatism, and possible amblyopia.  With my fact finder tendencies I had to further investigate what conditions Nolan was diagnosed with.

Hyperopia is a fancy word for farsightedness, which means Nolan can see better at distances than close up.  Astigmatism is when the front surface of the eye is not curved properly, which can lead to blurred vision.  Amblyopia is another word for lazy eye.  Dr. Jones informed me that Nolan's left eye is considerably weaker than his right eye and if not addressed his left eye could become lazy.  Good thing the Kindergarten eye exam is mandatory!!

Nolan was so great during his eye exam.  He listened to all of the instructions, had different eye drops placed in his eyes, and had to undergo several additional eye tests to find the correct prescription for his glasses.
Once Nolan's prescription was determined, we were sent out to select his frames.  There were so many to choose from!! We tried on several and I chose a pair, but Bill didn't like them.  None of the frames seemed to fit Nolan quite right.  The assistant was great in helping us look online to select a few frames that could be ordered.  So we left and would return back the following week to look at the frames ordered online.
Round two of trying to find some frames.  Nike brand fit Nolan a lot better than the others.  We ended up selecting the middle pair for Nolan.  They fit his cute little face the best and he liked the colors as well.  After confirming the frames, we left to await when the lens would be molded to fit the frames.  A few hours later, I received a call saying Nolan's glasses were ready.  Bill picked Nolan up from school and took him by to pick up his glasses and try them on.
Nolan looks pretty handsome in his new glasses if I do say so myself.  He is also doing great with them.  Nolan has kept his glasses on and only taken them off to go to bed or take a shower.  Nolan can only take his glasses of for physical activity once he starts back to school after spring break.  My Poot was so excited to buy lens cleaner and cleaning cloths to keep his glasses clean; he is so my son!! haha
Nolan has a check-up in 6 months to make sure the glasses are doing their job and making Nolan's left eye strong.  Until then.
